PPP Contributed Shared Memory Tools
Documentation
SMAIT, CIAT, TDAT, and CCAT
The report
HPL-96-157 describes the implementation of the early version of
SMAIT, CIAT, and TDAT, their usage, and the format of their output
files. The report
HPL-97-24 uses these tools to characterize a shared-memory
implementation of the NAS Parallel Benchmarks (NPB).
Gheith Abandah's Ph.D. thesis
describes the new version of these tools.

A technical
report that describes the CIAT approach and analyzes six
benchmarks from the NAS Parallel Benchmarks and the Stanford SPLASH-2
application suites is also available. A shorter version of this report
has appeared as an IPPS'98 paper.
CDAT was used to conduct a comparative study among three
CC-NUMA systems. The results of this comparison are summarized in an HPCS'98
paper.
CCAT was used to evaluate some SGI/Origin 2000 design
enhancements for communication intensive applications. The results of
this evaluation are summarized in a PACT'98
paper.
DSM-MB
The microbenchmarks for characterizing the memory and communication
performance of a distributed shared memory system are described in a
TPDS article,
ISCA'98 paper,
and Abandah's Ph.D. thesis.
HP/Convex SPP1600
The PinPoint online documentation makes several Convex manuals
available online. The Exemplar Programming manual, available through
PinPoint, is a good reference to learn parallel programming for the
SPP1600. PinPoint can be started on a CAEN HP workstation by typing:
