Overrides: Second Wave
For those of you who filled out override requests after the first list applications were processed, we can now let you know that all requests were honored with either your first or second choice for lab sections. Make sure you find your name on the second wave list. Please give the EECS office TWO DAYS to process the override request. Then, on Friday, please follow the steps outlined below under "Clarification on Override Procedure".
If you do not find your name listed on the second wave list and you filled out an override request form, please contact Prof. Wakefield asap (ghw@umich.edu). Thanks.
Clarification on Override Procedure
For those of you who appear on the master list and are not currently registered for the course, you should be able to use wolverine access to add the course to your classes by 9/11. You must register for both a lecture and a recitation section.
For those of you who appear on the master list and are currently registered for the course, you should be able to use wolverine access to first DROP your current enrollment and then ADD the lecture and recitation sections you requested. Remember that you must do a DROP/ADD for everything to work properly and you must register for both the lecture and recitation sections, even though you may not be changing one or the other.
FAILURE TO REGISTER FOR THE SECTIONS YOU HAVE BEEN AUTHORIZED TO ATTEND MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM THE COURSE. Please, do not register for different sections. Notify us in writing about any change in your plans, and we will work with your needs as best we can.
If you do not appear on the master list, we are currently processing your override forms and should provide you feedback by tomorrow (Tuesday, 9/11) afternoon on the website about your status.
Overrides
We have great news! Everyone who requested an override by handing in the override request form (from Wednesday's lecture) will be getting one. Please check out the master list to make sure your name is on it and to find out which lecture and/or recitation section you are authorized to register for. We were able to honor either your first or second choice for lab section. Note, each lab section is indicated by its starting time.
Procedures. From here on out, this is what will be happening:
The EECS Undergraduate Staff has been given authorization to issue overrides as described by the master list.
They will need a few days to process these overrides so that you can register. Please be patient - we hope that the matter will be handled by Tuesday of next week. We'll keep you posted if there is a delay.
You must crisp into the sections according to themaster list. Remember: EECS will issue you an override. This does not mean that you are automatically registered for the course. You must do this yourself.
Problems.
If there are problems with the information you find on the master list, please contact Prof. Wakefield (ghw@umich.edu). He has copies of the forms you submitted.
If you can't crisp - remain patient. We ask that you give our office staff until Tuesday to get this work processed. After that, give a holler to Prof. Wakefield (ghw@umich.edu), unless we hear otherwise from our staff.
Drop-Add/Overrides
Are you registered appropriately? Many, but not all, of you have successfully registered for the course by secured a lecture section (1 or 2) and one of the 9 lab sections (3-11).
Wait-list procedures. For those of you who are wait-listed or wish to get into the course, we will be making announcements during lecture on Wednesday, September 5. We will update the website concerning the status of registration/drop-adds and overrides and the procedures we will follow.
Consider taking the course next term. Because this is the first time this course has been offered, we expect there to be far more students interested in taking the course than we have room for. Please consider the following when making a decision about dropping or adding the course. This is the first time the course has been offered, and, therefore, it will be a shake-down cruise! "Interesting and insightful" - of course - but, it will be a shake-down cruise nevertheless for the instructors and the graduate student instructors. This goes for both the lectures and laboratories. The Winter term offering will learn from the mistakes and successes of the Fall term. In addition, the Winter term offering will have a dedicated computer laboratory facility for the lab sections. Bottom line: if you can delay taking this course by a semester, we ask you to think about doing so.
Important announcements will be made via the class email mailing list. It is essential that you enroll in the class email list. To do so, send email to the address listed below with the word "subscribe" as the subject:
eecs206-request@eecs.umich.edu
A test email will be sent Monday, Sept. 10 and announced in class. If you do not receive it, contact your instructor.
