Lab Submission Policy
1/12/17
Due Dates
See the current term lab schedule for due dates.
Late Policy
Labs are due according to the schedule. There are exceptions, so be sure to consult the current lab
schedule for details. Late penalties are accessed at 5% for the first
day and 10% for subsequent days. Only the lab component (Pre, In or
Post) that is due is penalized. The In-Lab component will not be
penalized on none staffed days.
Submitting Pre and Post Lab Assignments
Pre and Post Labs assignments are submitted via Gradescope. Each home
lab will have its own Gradescope course. The first day of lab your
home lab instructor will provide you with a class code to enroll.
Pre and Post Lab Content and Format
The assignment content is detailed in each lab assignment. It typically
consists of answers to questions, design source files and simulation
files. Each assignment lists the files to be submitted. They must be
combined in a unified (one) PDF.
Suggestions for Creating the Unified PDF File
Use a common word processing application like Office Word to combine
the lab assignment components in one document. The Unix OS environment
in the 270 lab, CAEN labs and VNC have LibreOffice Writer available. It
is more then adequate for this purpose and can create a PDF. It is under Applications-->Office-->LibreOffice Writer. Integrate the following files
or information as follows:
- Answers to questions can be simply typed into the LiberoOffice Writer document.
- Verilog Design Files, Test Bench files and QSF files are text
files and can be simply copied and pasted in the OpenOffice document.
- When submitting QSF files, it is only necessary to submit the pin constraint information.
- Screen snap shots of the Schematic Design files can be made with the Linux screen shot tool under Applications--> Accessories--> Take Screen Shot. Simply paste it into the LibreOffice Writer document.
- Likewise, you can take snap shots of the simulations waveforms and paste them into the LibreOffice Writer document.
- Finally, export or save the unified LibreOffice document as a PDF
for upload to Ctools. File-->Export-->PDF
Of course, there are other methods for creating the unified document
depending on the environment and applications available. The above
method works well in the lab, CAEN or VNC environment. If you choose
alternate methods you must be sure to provide clear, legible documents
or you can be penalized.
Handwritten Material
In some instances like state machine diagrams or even answers to
questions, it is acceptable to submit handwritten material. You can
scan the document and save as a PDF. There is a document scanner in the
lab on the instructors desk. The scanner allows for scan to a USB flash
drive. Alternatively, you can take a picture of the document and submit
as a JPEG. The document must be clear and legible!
In-Lab Submission
There is no Ctools submission component for the In-Lab. In-Lab
assignments consist of a lab demo that you must perform for a 270 lab
instructor. There are no exceptions! Obtain an In-lab demo sheet from
the lab web page, fill out the top half and demonstrate your lab to a
270 lab instructor. There are often copies available in the lab. The lab instructor will date and take the
demonstration sheet at the time of the demonstration. Take a photo of the demo sheet and submit it to your Gradescope sit. You may demonstrate to any 270 lab instructor.
Regrade Requests
Once your assignments are submitted they will be graded within 2 weeks.
The grades are reported in Gradebook in your home lab section Ctools
site. You have up to one week after the grades are posted to request
regrades.
