App Profiles: Understand the Permissions Requested by Android Apps
Have you ever wondered what the apps on your Android device are doing with all those permissions they ask for? App Profiles seeks to help you better understand the privacy and security implications of the software you install in order to allow you to make informed decisions about your
privacy.
The app analyzes applications offline in order to detect the
possible actions written into the application source code. When you request this info through App Profiles, itprovides a summary of findings for you.
The research team that developed this app is in the process of analyzing all of the available free apps available through Google Play, but will give priority to applications requested by users of App Profiles, so please check back in a few hours if you don't
see an application you're interested in. (Note that they do not provide
information about paid apps or apps not downloaded through Google Play.)
Sanae Rosen in the RobustNet research group created this app as part
of a larger research project on security and privacy issues
surrounding applications in the Android market. They made this app in
order to make their research results readily available to the general
public.
