ShadowMe: Let Your Friends Monitor You As You Walk Home At Night
ShadowMe is an Android app that allows your friends to monitor you on your walk home. When leaving a location, simply turn on the app and it will send your location to trusted contacts via text messages. Should you take longer than expected to walk home, the app will increase the frequency and urgency of the texts to remind your friends to check in on you. The app runs passively on your phone, not drawing any attention to itself, until you get close your destination when it sends an alert asking your to confirm that you are home. This app is a must for anyone who wants extra security on their walk home or peace of mind regarding their friends walking home alone.
ShadowMe will give you virtual partners, or "Shadows," to walk you to your destination safely and take appropriate action if an incident occurs.
The user will set his or her Shadows before departing from a location. After the user arms the app, the Shadows will receive periodic text messages listing the user's location. If either temporal progress suggests some sort of detour, the Shadows can take appropriate action. The app will ask to be disarmed upon arrival at destination.
ShadowMe was created by Nick Butler, Andrew Copp, and Adam Janower. It was selected as a runner up in the Fall 2011 U-M Mobile Apps Challenge and is available from Google Play..
