    Starting the registry server 

    To start the registry server, see the instructions on  Running CBE Servers.
    The registry server can be started alone, but normally, it is used along with the Corona server and the Room Manager server.  The instructions below assume that all the three servers are running.

    After starting the registry server, two accounts will be created. The following information describes the default values for these accounts:
     
    Field admin guest
    EMail Address jangho@eecs.umich.edu jangho@eecs.umich.edu
    Password admin none
    Modifying the registry database 

    To edit or add users to the registry database, or to edit some system parameters, follow the procedure presented below.

    1. Start the Session Manager through your Internet browser by referencing the appropriate HTML page.
    2. The normal login window should appear (below). Enter "admin" as the user and current admin password. Then select the Admin button. 
    3. Login Screen

    4. If the admin password supplied is correct, the Registry Administration dialog should appear. If an error occurs, an information dialog describing the error will appear. 
    5. Login Screen

      The following fields are available for editing:

      • Maximum User Logins: This is the maximum number of users that are allowed access to the system simultaneously. After this number of users have successfully logged into DistView, logins will be rejected. In this event, a dialog describing the denial will be presented to the user.
      • Maximum Guest Logins: This is the maximum number of guest users that are allowed access to the system simultaneously. After this number of guests have logged into DistView, further guest logins will be rejected. In this event, a dialog describing the denial will be presented to the user.
      NOTE: changes to the maximum login parameters are committed when exiting the screen via the OK button. Any modifications made to these fields will be discarded when exiting via the Cancel button. 

      The following action buttons are available on the dialog:

      OK - This buttons exits the admin dialog and returns the user to the login screen. Any changes to the maximum login parameters will be saved to the registry database. 

      Cancel - This buttons exits the admin dialog and returns the user to the login screen. Any changes to the maximum login parameters will be discarded. 

      Add User - This buttons presents an interface used for creating user accounts. After selecting this button, the edit user information dialog should be presented. (see below). 

      Edit User - This buttons presents an interface used for modifying existing user accounts. After selecting this button, the registered users dialog should be presented. (see below).

       

      If the Edit User button is selected, a dialog listing all the accounts currently in the registry database is presented. 

      Login Screen
      Select one or more accounts you wish to modify. In the event that multiple accounts are selected, an edit dialog will be presented for each account. 

      OK - This buttons accepts the selection of accounts, resulting in the presentation of the edit user information dialog for each account. If no accounts are selected, the admin dialog will be presented. 

      Cancel - This buttons exits the current dialog and returns to the admin dialog.

       

    6. If the Add User button is selected on the admin dialog or one or more accounts have been selected on the registered users dialog, the edit user information dialog is presented.
    7. Login Screen

      The following fields are available for editing. When creating new accounts, all fields must be filled.

      • Username: Available only for new accounts, the username is a unique identifier used as the reference handle through DistView. After the account is created, the username may not be altered.
      • Email Address: This is the electronic mail address used by the DistView system when forwarding mail.
      • Password: This is the password used to access the DistView system. A hash value of the password is stored in the registry database, and is unavailable to the system after account creation. As such, the password must be changed in the event it is lost.
      • Verify Password: Used as an error check against mistakes in typing the initial password.
      The following action buttons are available on the dialog:

      OK - This buttons accepts the addition of the new account or modifications to an existing account. This button will return the interface to the admin dialog.

      Cancel - This buttons discards an account creation or modifications to an existing account. This button will return the interface to the admin dialog.
