The European Workshop on Compound Semiconductor Devices and Integrated Circuits held in Europe has a long-standing tradition and was established in 1973. Since then it has been regularly held at different places in Europe including Greece in 1981. This time it returns to Greece and is planned to be held aboard a cruise ship in the Aegean Sea. The Workshop aims to bring together scientists and engineers working in the area of III-V compound semiconductor devices and integrated circuits for microwave, mm-wave, and optoelectronic applications. Both, invited papers and short submitted papers will be presented during the four day meeting, detailing latest results on electronic, optoelectronic, and integrated devices. The idea is to address new results in short presentations to initiate an intensive and fruitful discussion of the relevant topics. Despite of the European character of the workshop series, interested people from all over the world are invited to attend.
The 24th WOCSDICE will be held aboard a
Cruise
ship in the Aegean See, Greece, May 29 – June 02, 2000
The Aegean Sea is located in the Mediterranean Sea between Greece in the West and Turkey in the East and is bordered in the South by the scenic Greek islands of the Cyclades, Crete, and Rhodes. The workshop will begin on Monday morning, May 29, 2000, with our departure from Piraeus and will end with our return to Piraeus in the early morning on Friday, June 02, 2000. All sessions will be held aboard the cruise ship. Accommodation and meals will also be provided aboard. The workshop is planned so that sessions are held between visits to the Aegean islands. It is expected that the workshop spirit will be enhanced by the ample opportunities for interaction that will be offered in this way to the participants. The year 2000 inaugurates also the offering of both WOCSDICE and EXMATEC in the same country over two consecutive weeks (see related information below).
Preliminary list of invited speakers:
Contributed Papers are solicited in, but not limited to:
a. Material Growth and Characterization
b. Transistor Structures Using GaAs, InP, and III-V Nitrides
c. MW and MM-Wave Integrated Circuits
d. Device and MMIC Reliability
e. Noise and Power Characteristics of Devices and Circuits
f. Terahertz Technology
g. Optoelectronic Devices and their Integration
h. Novel Structures and Concepts
i. Modeling and Simulation
j. Technology of Devices and MMICs
Navy International Collaboration Opportunity Program
This year’s WOCSDICE will be followed up by the NICOP meeting to be held in Athens in the morning of our return to Piraeus on June 02, 2000. This will be a 2 to 3 hour long informal meeting that will provide the opportunity for those interested to explore international collaborative efforts and present and discuss the nature of original research they plan to pursue. NICOP envisages the formation of a consortium in the order of five institutions in Europe with a smaller number in the US. NICOP will fund participating institutions which are also expected to cost share about 50%. This is an exciting opportunity to combine WOCSDICE with a meeting aiming at funding opportunities in wide bandgap semiconductors. Further details on location and time will be provided to those interested to participate by April 28, 2000.

Please note
that due to the need for early reservation of the cruise, it is necessary to
ensure that participants are registered the latest
by April 03, 2000. Earlier registration is encouraged.
Workshop attendees should submit a 2-page paper. A paperback volume containing these papers will be handed out to the participants. To ensure that the latest results are included in the workshop proceedings, prospective authors are provided with the option of submitting a shorter version of their paper that will only be used for Workshop planning purposes. This short 100-word abstract should be submitted by March 20, 2000. The full 2-page paper should then be submitted by April 28, 2000. If you do not wish to exercise this option, you should submit the full 2-page version of your paper by the earlier date. Under all circumstances, either short abstract of full paper should be submitted by March 20, 2000. All abstracts and papers should be submitted via e-mail to wocsdice@eecs.umich.edu, preferably as attached MS Word document.
Instructions
for formatting the paper can be found here and can also
be downloaded in MS Word format: Paper-template.doc (24kB).

provided they share the cabin with parent(s). Maximum two children per cabin.
* Twin cabin: Price is per person. Cabin is shared between two participants or a participant and his/her spouse.
** Single cabin: Price is for one person. Cabin is reserved for one participant.
For participants, this includes attendance at all technical sessions, workshop proceedings, and refreshments during breaks, as well as meals and accommodation aboard the ship. The price for accompanying persons includes meals and accommodation aboard the ship. The registration fee is at a very attractive price compared to regular events considering the fact that it is a four-day meeting, it includes accommodation and all meals aboard the ship, and offers at the same time the opportunity to participate in a cruise.
The preferred method of payment is by bank transfer to:
