The American Vacuum Society (AVS) is a nonprofit organization that promotes communication, education, networking, recommended practices, research, and the dissemination of knowledge on an international scale, in the application of vacuum and other controlled environments to understand and develop interfaces, new materials, processes, and devices through the interaction of science and technology.

Plasma Science and Technology Prize recipients are honored for outstanding contributions to the field of plasma science and technology.

Medard W. Welch Award (2010)
For outstanding contributions to modeling and physical understanding of plasmas, especially those used in thin film etching, deposition and surface modification.
