Rick Bolander is currently Managing Director and co-founder of Gabriel Venture Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm that is helping build innovative, profitable and sustainable companies in the Internet, information technology, communications and cleantech sectors.

Mr. Bolander received an MBA from Harvard University after completing his graduate studies at the University of Michigan, College of Engineering, and then began working at Chevron in the Systems, Planning and Development Department. From Chevron, he returned to Ann Arbor to teach computer architecture at the University of Michigan, and then worked for AT&T in various operating areas, including marketing, sales and operations. While at AT&T, Mr. Bolander participated in the company's executive succession program and received the President's Award and the Quality Management of the Year Award. He began his investment career in residential real estate after launching Blue Sky Ventures, a Chicago residential real estate investment firm. A career in venture capital at later ensued when he joined Chicago-based Apex Investment Partners, as a General Partner.

A hands-on, forward-thinking investor, Mr. Bolander has been involved in more than 50 venture deals, and has led over $100 million in early-stage financings in the areas of digital media infrastructure and applications, communications, information technology and the Internet. These have included AccessLine Communications (acquired by Telenetix), Concord Communications (IPO - NASDAQ: CCRD), Persistent Systems (IPO - BSE India: PER EQ) and Tut Systems (IPO – NASDAQ: TUTS). Rick was also an early investor in companies such as IPWireless (acquired by Nextwave) and Placeware (acquired by Microsoft). He has also served on the boards of Arula Systems (acquired by Raritan), Jacked (acquired by Roundbox) and NetScaler (acquired by Citrix Systems), as well as on the public boards of Concord Communications (acquired by Computer Associates) and Exodus Communications (IPO - NASDAQ: EXDS, then acquired by Savvis). Mr. Bolander currently serves as a board member of Chegg, iForem and Kajeet and is a charter member of The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE).

Mr. Bolander continues his passion for entrepreneurship, supporting the University by leading sessions at the University of Michigan Boot Camp for Entrepreneurs and by being an active member of the CFE Board. He endowed the Professor George I. Haddad Innovators Scholarship in 2007, and has also incubated an accredited academic program on campus that takes students into the community to assist at-risk youth. In his spare time he can be found cheering on the wolverines or climbing a mountain.

Mr. Bolander received his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in electrical engineering from The University of Michigan.
