About the EventNo, the title is not necessarily a reference to the University of Michigan – just a general reflection on
the state of affairs in the world around us: 19th century politics in a 21st century setting. But I’m digressing… And
that is exactly what I intend to do in this talk. It has been eleven years since I received a PhD from the University of
Michigan in computer engineering. Since then I have spent a lot of time on airplanes and on many continents but
only at one company: ARM Limited. Not sure I am at the stage where I could write the definitive book on life yet
but I will share some of the observations I’ve made along the way. The talk will touch on trends in the computer
industry, humanity’s future, and things I wish I had figured out sooner. |
BiographyKrisztián Flautner is the Vice President for Research and Development at ARM. ARM designs the
technology that lies at the heart of advanced digital products with more than thirty billion processors deployed
by mid 2012. He leads a global team which is focused on the understanding and development of technologies
relevant to the proliferation of the ARM architecture. The group’s activities cover a wide breadth of areas ranging
from circuits, through processor and system architectures to tools and software. Key activities are related to highperformance
computing in energy-constrained environments. Flautner received a PhD in computer science and
engineering from the University of Michigan, where he is currently appointed as a visiting scholar. He is a member
of the ACM and the IEEE. |
