About the Event

Quantum thermodynamics is an emerging field under intensive studies recently. In this reading seminar, I will present the work of Weilenmann, Kramer, Faist and Renner (arXiv:1501.06920). They applied the axiomatic framework of Lieb and Yngvason (Proc. Roy. Soc. [2013]) to quantum systems and found that the thermodynamic notion of entropies in this framework are precisely the familiar quantum entropies. In particular the non-equilibrium thermodynamic entropies are the min-/max-quantum entropies, which are central to the "one-shot" quantum information theory, as well as to quantum cryptography.
