About the Event

The art and science of Visual Effects have long been associated with visions that seek to surpass the limits of imagination. John (DJ) DesJardin will showcase technologies and philosophies behind THE MATRIX RELOADED, THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS and THE ENTER THE MATRIX game. DJ will frame this work within an historical context and demonstrate the convergence of workflows that are leading to more satisfying, immersive entertainment experiences. Settle in and see just how deep the rabbit hole can go. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, John (DJ) DesJardin has been directing innovative film effects for over twenty years. A University of Michigan film school graduate, he started his career producing graphics and high resolution CGI for Darkman, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, and Timecop. He quickly moved into the position of Digital Effects Supervisor on a myriad of films. In 1996, DJ rose to the top of his field as a Visual Effects Supervisor, adding End Of Days, Firestorm and The Astronaut's Wife to his credit list, among others. During this time, he also supervised key effects sequences for Swordfish, Queen of the Damned and several commercials. Eventually, DJ joined MVFX as a Senior Visual Effects Supervisor. There, he oversaw the 3D Department on Mission: Impossible 2, Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon, Almost Famous and led early pre-production development work for the Matrix sequels. With his extensive Matrix knowledge and innovative eye, DJ was asked by the Wachowski Brothers to be a VFX Supervisor on The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions film team. During his three plus years in that position, DJ was also responsible for designing unique CG sequences for The Enter The Matrix videogame, utilizing the films' resources and talent. The integration of film quality CG scenes, made in conjunction with a high profile movie, became another groundbreaking moment within the film and interactive industries.
