CSE New Student Information for Fall 2009

Welcome new CSE Graduate Students! We are looking forward to having you in the Computer Science and Engineering Graduate Program. We hope the information on this website will help you prepare for your studies and answer questions regarding the CSE Graduate Program.

When you arrive on campus, please stop by the CSE Graduate Office (3909 CSE) to introduce yourself and find out who your academic advisor will be.   You need to attend the New Student Orientation Meeting which will be on Tuesday, September 8, at 4:30 pm in room 1670 CSE.  You should also attend the CSE Peer Counseling: September 1, 10:00 am - noon, 3901 CSE and September 8, noon - 3:00pm, 3725 CSE.(You will find extremely helpful information in the New Student Checklist regarding important events that you should attend these first few days)

Please refer to the information on these web pages to help you get started in our program for the Fall 2009 term.   The CSE Brochure will be an important document for your tenure as a student here, please keep a copy for your reference (an new updated version will be available in early September).

Before classes begin, you will need to meet with your advisor to discuss your class schedule. In your first term you will need to have your Masters Plan of Study approved by your advisor (and then submitted to the Graduate Office for inclusion in your file.    You must complete the Master's degree Plan of Study if you are pursuing a MS or MSE degree. If you are entering with a relevant Master's degree, you do not need to fill out this form (you will not be receiving a Masters degree as part of your tenure here). This document is a tentative schedule of classes you wish to take, along with the semester in which you plan to take them. Its purpose is to help you meet all the requirements for graduation in a timely fashion. You will probably change the Plan of Study at least once. The point is to insure, at all times, that you are pursuing a program of study that will lead to completion of all requirements by the desired date.

As always, if you have questions or need information, please stop in my office. We are looking forward to seeing you and trust that your stay here will be a rewarding one.
