  • Application fee:  Use credit card to pay $60 for domestic applicants, $75 for international. 
  • Transcripts/Records: For your convenience we offer a transcript upload page within the online application. All applicants must mail one set of final official transcripts/records, diplomas with your degree posted to the Rackham Graduate School Admissions.
  • GRE scores:  Sent electronically from ETS, Institution code:  1839. Scores automatically go to Rackham and the department
  • Statement of Purpose and Personal Statement:  Submit this with your online application. (The statement of Purpose is a statement about your academic research and career goals. The Personal Statement is a statement about the effects of your life experiences on your decision to pursue a graduate degree
  • Three letters of recommendation:  We encourage you to submit your letters electronically.  If not, download recommendation form from Rackham's website:  http://www.rackham.umich.edu/Admis/pdfforms/RecommenFormPaper.pdf. (At least two letters should be from faculty.)

We admit students for the Fall Term only (no applications for Spring/Summer or Winter will be accepted). Applications received after the deadlines below will not be processed.

To apply for departmental financial aid, answer the appropriate question on the application.  No separate application is required. You may also wish to refer to the other sources of financial aid links provided on the EE Admissions page.

Decisions for admission and financial aid are made separately. If you are being awarded departmental financial assistance, you will be notified. You will not be notified if you are not being offered departmental financial assistance.

We are not usually able to respond immediately to requests for application status.  Each application is carefully reviewed.  Decisions are made throughout the academic year; therefore it is best to allow us until March 1 before making a status request.
