The Control Laboratory supports a state-of-the-art instructional laboratory in embedded, microprocessor based control systems. The microprocessor used is the Freescale MPC5553, designed for automotive powertrain applications. Lab assignments develop an embedded controller for a haptic interface, or force feedback wheel, that allows a human to interact with a computer algorithm through the sense of touch. The lab stations are networked, allowing distributed control algorithms to be implemented, including a simulation of an adaptive cruise control system. In addition to its use in EECS 461, Embedded Control Systems, the lab is also used to conduct research in haptic interfaces, teleoperation, and human-computer interaction.|
