DESUMA Installation Instructions

  • Java Runtime Environment - Version 1.7.* is recommended
  • UMDES Executables - Integrated with DESUMA 2.0

  1. Click on the DESUMA installer link for your platform and save the file to your hard drive.
  2. On Windows or Mac, double click on the downloaded file to run the installer. On Linux, open a terminal and type java -jar <installer>
  3. The installer will ask you to choose an installation directory. In some cases, it will not be possible to choose system areas.
  4. In Linux or on Mac, it may be necessary to set permissions for the umdes exectuables. Open a terminal, and cd to <installation_directory>/plugins/umdes/exec/<your_os>/. Type ls -l to see if the executable permission is set on the files. If not, type chmod u+x *
  5. The installer program will create a program directory containing the sub-directories "plugins" and "lib", and a file called DESUMA.jar. It is this DESUMA.jar file that you will use to open the application. On Windows or Mac, simply double click on it to start DESUMA. On Linux, open a terminal and use the command java -jar DESUMA.jar
  6. When running the program for the first time, it may also be necessary to specify the plugins file, without which there will be no DESUMA menu functions. You may skip this step if you see a umdes menu (it would appear just to the left of the help menu). If you do not have available menu functions, then go to Preferences -> Preferences..., select the "Profile" tab, click "Browse..." under "Plugins Directory", and browse to <installation_directory>/plugins/umdes/umdes.xml
