Terms of UMIPS Use

The managers and the contributors make no guarantees regarding the IP contained within UMIPS.

UMIPS can be used only for educational and/or research purposes.

Any published research that utilizes UMIPS must explicitly acknowledge UMIPS and the contributor(s) of the IP. The citation must read as follows:

The reported work contains IP components courtesy of the University of Michigan Intellectual Property Source (UMIPS) and [contributor] of [affiliation].

Electronic files received from UMIPS cannot be redistributed in any way, shape, or form. Breaches of these terms will be taken seriously and access to UMIPS will be denied indefinitely to those who violate these conditions.

Submitted IP must be of original work and cannot contain 3rd party IP unless redistribution is specifically permitted by the 3rd party. Documentation expressly granting permission must be submitted in writing to UMIPS and any included 3rd party IP must be explicitly declared with the original submission. Undeclared 3rd party IP discovered within the repository will be removed without notice.

Patented IP can be submitted to the repository, but only after a provisional filing with the USPTO has been completed. UMIPS is not responsible for the loss of any intellectual property filing rights, either domestic or foreign, as a result of participation.
