HOBBIES

William D. Becher

Amature radio--especially building new gadgets, tinkering with PC computers, updating my software programming skills--particularly Java and the Visual Studio programming suite, re-reading all my university textbooks, reading the Classics and new technical books, attending seminars and lectures and writing novels and poetry are the current interests! In my spare time I enjoy working in the yard, building things in my workshop and watching old movies on TV.

Poetry (a few samples)

The hills are there for man to scale,
Though paths are oft' times steep.
For those who dare and then succeed,
What gems they finally reap.
'Twas just a dream the other night,
A funny one at that.
I left this world without a fight,
In Heaven's chair I sat.

And as I pondered where I was,
An angel passed my way.
Looked at me as no mortal does,
And welcomed me today.

And then there came all those I knew,
The folk I'd lost before.
Grandma was there, and Grandpa too,
And John who died at war.

My sister Tess who had the flu,
And cousin Jack O'Day.
They waved to me, somehow I knew,
They wished that I would stay.

Then others came, though never met,
I knew them just the same.
Washington, Taft and Juliet,
Those people with such fame.

Without a word they let me know,
They liked what they had there.
"Don't fear the time when you must go,"
Was what they wished to share.

And then I woke, the dream had ceased,
And I was back in bed.
Forevermore, my thoughts released,
By what those friends had said.
