Ephemerides

Yesterday I submitted the paper that Hyunchul and I have been working on. That's what's been keeping me busy the past couple of weeks. Now I'm in New York visiting Jenny for Thanksgiving. She moved to a new apartment this semester and it's really nice.. it's one of the Trump Place buildings and it's pretty high-end. It's got a concierge and everything. Big step up from her old place in Harlem, and costs less too since she's sharing it with 2 other people (who are not around this week anyway).

Flying into La Guardia yesterday, we got a rare approach into runway 4 (at least I guess it's rare, I don't remember flying in that way before). What this meant is the final approach took us low right alongside the length of Manhattan's east side just before landing, and I had a great view of the island and all of the East River bridges. Luckily my seat was on the left side of the plane so I had a good view (and it was in first class... I've been getting upgraded pretty regularly on these flights, which is cool).

I've been buying some minor computer upgrades off eBay. Got myself 256MB more RAM. Also got a cheap IDE card so I can hook up all my drives at once.. that should delay my need to buy a new hard drive or one of those DVD/CD combo burners for a while.

It's kinda weird not having classes. It's hard to gauge how far along you are in the semester, because there's no syllabus. It's like endless summer, which is not necessarily good... it's easy to just not be paying attention and have 2 weeks slip out from under you.

I guess paper deadlines take the place of class deadlines though. There's one in a couple of weeks that we're shooting for.

On a side note, I haven't flown in way too long. My last 4 lessons have all been canceled because of bad weather... there have been very few good flying days in the past 3 weeks, and thanks to bad luck I haven't been able to get a time slot on any of them. And this week my instructor's out of town, next week I have that deadline, and the week after that I'll be gone for Thanksgiving... no flying in sight for a while. I probably should have flown more over the summer... I could have my license by now, or at least be soloing. Ah well. I guess there's no rush.
