Ephemerides

Not much going on lately, which is why I haven't blogged in a while.

Guitar Hero II update: I beat the game on expert, and I beat the game on hard with five stars on every song. Woo! I'm a Guitar Hero fiend.

Tonight I'm flying to LA for the holidays. Yay!

Lately I've been reading a lot of books. The reason is, I reserved a bunch of books from the library over the past several months (both the city library and the university library), and they all became available at roughly the same time, about 3 weeks ago. So I had like 6 books, and several of them I could not renew because other people had them on hold. So I had to read as many as I could in the 3 weeks before leaving for LA.

One of the books was about language, which I mentioned last time. Another was by Chuck Klosterman, and included this passage which I thought was interesting:

All the world's stupidest people are either zealots or atheists. If you want to truly deduce how intelligent someone is, just ask this person how they feel about any issue that doesn't have an answer; the more certainty they express, the less sense they have. This is because certainty only comes from dogma.

Also, the book contained a reference to that 80's children's educational PBS show, 3-2-1 Contact. I used to watch that show all the time. I even had a subscription to the associated magazine. So I looked up clips of the opening theme on YouTube the other day. It brought back memories, with the funk guitar theme music and everything... just awesome.
