Ephemerides

Here are a couple more pictures from the auto show that didn't make it into the last album because they aren't from my camera and I just got them today.

I think what's in the background of these pictures is pretty funny. On the left is me on a BMW K1200R Sport. Behind me, all these people are waiting their turn to get on the bike and have their picture taken. The funny thing is they're all kids. And here I am, a 26-year-old, pretending to ride a stationary bike.

On the right, I'm in a 350Z convertible. But it's funny that those two guys on either side of the car are looking down at me in a vaguely menacing way. It kinda looks like they're about to pull me out of the car and kick my ass.

Happy Chinese New Year!

This has nothing to do with Chinese New Year, but here are some interesting coincidences.

I have a roommate here in Ann Arbor whose name is Mike Chu, who is Chinese and is from Canada. Five years ago, at UCLA, I also had a roommate named Mike Chu, who is Chinese and is from Canada. Weird, eh?

A couple of years ago I had another roommate (who, by the way, was also named Mike). He moved out and another guy moved into his room. Turns out, they both have the same birthday. Eeenteresting, no?

A friend who I don't talk to that often just messaged me by accident (he clicked on the wrong name). Before realizing his mistake, he asked me, do you know any pilots, I'm doing some market research. He didn't know I was a student pilot. So, even though he clicked on the wrong name, he still found what he was looking for.

Last fall, when I went to Korea, I got separated from one of my labmates whom I was traveling with, while we were trying to get from the airport to the hotel. Later, we ran into each other at a subway station. Neither of us had taken the subway to the hotel; we had each gotten to the hotel independently (by bus) and then decided to go exploring... to the same place at the same time.

And this is probably not that uncommon, but it's always interesting when you find out that two people in different parts of your life actually know each other (a.k.a. the "small world" phenomenon). I can think of several times I've observed this in the past few years.

It has been freakin' cold lately. Daytime highs in the single digits and teens, and below zero at night.

Here are some pictures from the auto show last month. I put 'em on Google's Picasa Web Albums. I haven't decided yet whether I'll start using them in the future for picture hosting. It's easier than using my own album thing, but the main problem is there's no easy way to upload multiple pictures to Picasa Web from Linux.
