My research is aimed at the study of scalability, dependability and security of networked
systems and applications. My interests include distributed computing, network security,
and network protocols. I have led several research efforts aimed at developing new protocols and architectures for ensuring dependability of the Internet infrastructure in the presence of security attacks, hardware and software failures, and operational faults.
I served as Chair for Computer Science and Engineering from 2007 - 2011 and as Director of the Software Systems Lab from 1997 - 2000.
In late 2000, I co-founded Arbor Networks,
a network security company based on research conducted with my collaborators and former students
at the University of Michigan. I serve as Chairman of Arbor Networks until its acquisition by
Tektronix Communications, a division of
Danaher, in September, 2010.
