The charter of the Integrated Manufacturing Process Automation and Control Technologies Group (IMPACT) is to provide for the development, application, and transfer of manufacturing automation, control, and optimization concepts and structures, with an emphasis on semiconductor and display manufacturing. As such, this effort is heavily involved in the technology transfer and commercialization aspects of control solutions and is focused on the development of these solutions to be generic, re-usable, and adaptable, thus providing an ideal transfer environment.

We have made significant strides in three domains, namely run-to run control, inter-process control, and sensor bus automation and control. These three domains are important components of the hierarchical control structure ; that is part of the automated manufacturing paradigm. In each of these areas we have numerous publications, are involved in related standards efforts and have developed software solutions for industry.

IMPACT is closely affiliated with other interdisciplinary efforts here at the University dedicated to other domains in the automated control structure such as real-time control, and factory optimization and control.
