Dr. Michael S. McCorquodale is the Chief Technical Officer and founder of Mobius Microsystems, an analog semiconductor device company based in Silicon Valley. Mobius was founded based on Dr. McCorquodale's research at the University of Michigan in precision analog integrated circuits for frequency generation and quartz replacement. On that work, Dr. McCorquodale has published over 25 technical articles and holds inventorship on over 30 issued and pending U.S. patents. Founded in 2004, Dr. McCorquodale led Mobius as its CEO for two years and secured the first design-wins which generated the original revenue for the company. Dr. McCorquodale also oversaw the design of Mobius' first product, which has shipped over 10 million units to date. For those efforts, Governor Jennifer Granholm awarded Mobius for the Largest High-Tech Job Creation in the State of Michigan in 2005. In 2006, the Small Business Association of Michigan and Governor Granholm awarded Dr. McCorquodale and Mobius for developing the Innovation of the Year in Michigan. Also in 2006, the Fabless Semiconductor Association recognized Mobius as 1 of 3 nominees for the Start-up to Watch Award. In 2009, EDN recognized Mobius' all-silicon spread-spectrum clock generator as one of the "Hot 100 Products" of 2008. In recognition of these accomplishments, Dr. McCorquodale received the Young Alumni Achievement Award from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department Alumni Board at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the Recent Engineering Graduate Award from the College of Engineering Alumni Society Board at the University of Michigan, both in 2009. Prior to founding Mobius, Dr. McCorquodale was with Hughes Space and Communications Co. in El Segundo, CA where he developed high-speed InP and SiGe integrated circuits. Dr. McCorquodale earned the B.S.E. degree with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he was a James Scholar and an invited member of Eta Kappa Nu. Dr. McCorquodale completed the M.S.E and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Michigan in Electrical Engineering in the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Engineering Research Center (ERC) in Wireless Integrated Microsystems (WIMS). While at the University of Michigan, Dr. McCorquodale was the sole national recipient of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) Doctoral Fellowship in 2002. He also originated several integrated circuit design concepts at Michigan that have been awarded at 4 national and international integrated circuit design competitions including a 1st place and best paper award at the Design Automation Conference (DAC) in 2000 and a 1st place award at the joint DAC/ISSCC design competition in 2003. Dr. McCorquodale and his colleagues have also been awarded 1st place at 6 (and been finalists at 11) state-wide, national and international business plan competitions associated with launching Mobius. For these efforts, he received the Distinguished Electrical Engineer Award and the Harry B. Benford Entrepreneurial Leadership Award, which was presented by U-M's former Head Football Coach, Lloyd Carr. Dr. McCorquodale has also recently served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of Michigan in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science where he instructed a graduate course in solid-state technology. He has been invited regularly to lecture on entrepreneurship, economic development and technology. In his spare time, Dr. McCorquodale has engaged in a myriad of volunteer activities, particularly in inner city and poor communities in Detroit. He also enjoys spending any time he can find with his wife, Ruba, and traveling abroad with her. |
