Installing Quartus on your laptop
Altera provides a free version of Quartus, which runs on Windows XP and Vista
computers. This web page provides instructions for how to install Quartus on
your laptop.
- Download and run the
Quartus II Web Edition Software.
Although the web page states that this is for Windows Vista (32-bit) and
Windows XP (32-bit), it will also run on Windows Vista (64-bit).

If you are running Windows Vista (64-bit), configure it to accept unsigned
drivers:
- Start a command prompt with administrator privilege (Windows
-> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt).
Right click on Command Prompt and select Run as
administrator.
- In the command window, type
bcdedit /set loadoptions DDISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
- Go to 2431 EECS to install the device driver for the USB connection to
the DE2 board. Unplug the DE2 board's USB cable from the desktop computer
and plug it into your laptop. Follow the following instructions
to install the USB-Blaster driver. Please re-connect the USB cable to the
desktop computer when you're done.
