Introduction

Perl stands for Practical Extraction and Report Language. As its name suggests, perl is very good for scanning arbitrary text files, extracting information from them, and printing reports. Well, I prefer Larry Wall (creator of perl)'s defintion: Perl is the Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister :-).
