Dear students and facilitators, The moment of truth has arrived. We are now ready to announce the results from the NACLO 2008 open round. We are doing this two days later than planned due to large numbers of students who participated this year (763 compared to 195 last year) and also due to unanticipated problems caused by postal delays, solutions sent to the wrong places, etc. We also needed time to tabulate close to 4000 scores and thoroughly check the results. As you can imagine, the competition was incredible. We are amazed at the quality of some of the submissions. We are also happy to see that students tried to do their best even when they were unable to complete a problem. Most students were able to get partial credit for partially completed problems. Problems C and E were the hardest and A and B were the easiest. The average scores were as follows: A 67% B 69% C 21% D 38% E 21% The overall average of all students was 39.2%. At least one student achieved a full score on each problem. 224 students scored at least 90% on problem A. 282 students scored at least 90% on problem B. 16 students scored at least 90% on problem C. 39 students scored at least 90% on problem D. 13 students scored at least 90% on problem E. The highest score is 97.5%. The twenty highest scoring students are: 97.5 #143 Anand Natarajan The Harker School CA USA 92.5 #533 Rafael Krichevsky University of Toronto Schools ON Canada 90.0 #2 Rebecca Jacobs Harvard-Westlake CA USA 89.5 #470 Jae-Kyu Lee Phillips Academy MA USA 89.0 #523 Michael Gerhardt Chelmsford High School MA USA 89.0 #615 Hanzhi Zhu Shrewsbury High School MA USA 85.0 #222 Anak Yodpinyanee Oregon Episcopal School OR USA 84.5 #24 Eli Hornstein NC School of Sci Math NC USA 84.0 #22 Catherine Sheard Hugh C Williams Senior HS NY USA 80.0 #31 Molly Walter Taylor Allderdice High School PA USA 80.0 #152 Antal Spector-Zabusky Lehman Alternative Comm NY USA 79.0 #700 Brian Hamrick Thomas Jefferson Sch Sci Tech VA USA 78.5 #41 Andrew Peters Mayo High School MN USA 78.5 #233 Rachel Chasin Bergen County Academies NJ USA 78.5 #669 Eric Jia University of Toronto Schools ON Canada 78.5 #729 Gwendolyn Lovsted University of Toronto Schools ON Canada 78.0 #387 John Berman Hoggard High School NC USA 77.0 #21 Amitte Rosenfeld Taylor Allderdice High School PA USA 77.0 #90 April Shen Ithaca High School NY USA 77.0 #310 Ethan Klein Cherry Hill High School East PA USA All competitors whose total score was 58% or higher will be invited to participate in the Invitational round, to take place on March 11th. ------------------------------------------------------------------- I NEED ALL FACILITATORS OF STUDENTS WHO MADE IT TO THE INVITATIONAL ROUND TO EMAIL ME IMMEDIATELY IN ORDER TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS. ------------------------------------------------------------------- We will post the full list of scores (by registration number only) on the NACLO web site in the next few days.
