Memory Upgrades

The I7k comes with two empty memory slots. However, purchasing memory upgrades from Dell is expensive. Fortunately, there are many other vendors that sell compatible memory modules for the I7k. I took a look at memory prices and decided that the best deal is to buy two 64MB modules, giving me a total of 192MB system memory (64MB came from the factory).

In June 1999, when I bought my chips, I found that Coast to Coast Memory had the best deal: $51.49 for 64MB (item number 64MEGLAP). With shipping to Michigan, my final cost for 128MB was $112.48. Compare that to buying from Dell, which would cost over $400! [note: on July 20, 1999 Coast to Coast Memory was selling I7k 64MB modules for $57.49 -- check their site for the latest pricing.]

Memory prices keep changing, so if you find another company that sells memory for less, please email me after you receive the memory and verify that it works in your I7k (include company, web address, and part number).
