The Radiation Laboratory (Radlab) manages academic programs and conducts research on all aspects of applied EM, including microwave and millimeter-wave circuits, MEMS circuits, antennas, wave propagation, wireless applications, computational EM, microwave remote sensing, plasma electrodynamics, and EM metamaterials.

The objective of the Center for Microelectronics and Sensors (CMES) program is to develop multifunctional, mobile microsystems that can operate autonomously in a variety of complex environments. Its thrust research areas include novel electronic circuit/processing architectures, novel materials for communication and power-efficient sensing, low-power communication and networked response, assisted and autonomous navigation, as well as power generation and management. 

The Michigan Institute for Plasma Science and Engineering (MIPSE) conducts research on various aspects of plasma science and engineering, with focused attention on low temperature plasmas (LTP) and high energy density plasmas (HEDP) in particular.
