EECS601: Intro to CSE Graduate Research (Fall 2022)

Purpose of this Assignment:

The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to get involved in department events and explore research within or outside of your specialization area. We hope that this is not the only seminar you attend over the semester, but rather that you attend seminars on your own accord and therefore can easily complete this assignment.

Task

Choose a CSE seminar to attend. Seminars include but are not limited to: faculty candidate talks, Ph.D. defenses, CoE Distinguished Lecture Series, and reading groups. A list of upcoming events can be found here (Links to an external site.). If you would like to attend an event that is not on this list, please email the instructors for approval.

Then, write a response to the following questions:

• Briefly summarize the event you attended and the topic that was discussed. If the seminar discusses research, what issue is being addressed or what population is being served? What is the cause of the issue being addressed, and what other work is being done in this area? (1-2 paragraphs)

• What parts of the discussion did you find most interesting?

• Did you learn something new or clarify an interest? Explain.

• Can you apply anything you learned, and if so, how?

• What else would you like to learn, if anything, about this topic?
