EECS601: Intro to CSE Graduate Research (Fall 2022)

Purpose of this Assignment:

The purpose of this assignment is to encourage you to get involved in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) at the University and begin to critically think how you can apply what you learned to your research and the CSE community.

Task

Choose a Rackham DEI event to virtually attend. A list of upcoming events can be found here (Links to an external site.). You should feel to attend a DEI event that is not hosted through Rackham or the University. If you would like to attend an event that is not on Rackham's list, please email the instructors for approval.

Then, write a response to the following questions:

• Briefly summarize the event you attended and the topic that was discussed. What issue is being addressed and what population is being served? What is the cause of the issue being addressed, and what other work is being done in this area? (1-2 paragraphs)

• What parts of the discussion did you find most interesting?

• Did you learn something new or expand your previous knowledge on the topic? Explain.

• How can you apply anything you learned to your research or the broader CSE community?

• What else would you like to learn, if anything, about this topic?
