Encouraging careers in research

An event hosted on April 15 by CSE gave undergraduates a taste of what its like to do research for a living. The poster session and panel on Research as a Career invited students to find out what it means to do research full time, to learn the ins and outs of a researchers life, and to ask questions of research scientists, engineers, PhD students, and faculty. Student receives GSI Award for innovative work as educator, promoting diversity

Training student instructors for inclusive teaching in intro CSE courses

The CSE Division has undertaken a new initiative to support a better and more welcoming climate for all students in its introductory courses. The initiative provides specialized training on inclusive teaching to all Graduate Student Instructors (GSIs) and Instructional Assistants (IAs) who teach or provide other instructional support to those courses, emphasizing a number of factors that help instructors interact with students in an inclusive and equitable way. Bertacco recognized for efforts to bolster diversity

Arthur F. Thurnau Prof. Valeria Bertacco has been awarded the 2019 Harold R. Johnson Diversity Service Award for exhibiting outstanding leadership in the area of cultural diversity.
