Professor Dave Neuhoff Appointed Joseph E. and Anne P. Rowe Professor of Electrical Engineering

David L. Neuhoff, Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, has been appointed as the initial Joseph E. and Anne P. Rowe Professor of Electrical Engineering, effective January 1, 2005, pending Regental approval. This endowed chair was established in 2004 by the Rowes, who received numerous degrees from the College and University. Joseph joined the CoE faculty in 1953 and in 1968 assumed the chairmanship of the Electrical Engineering department. Ann served as a research associate in the Materials and Metallurgical department and then senior research associate in the School of Dentistry.

Professor Neuhoff's research focuses on communication and information theory, source coding, quantization and data compression, coding for magnetic recording and digital image halftoning. He has received numerous honors and awards and was elected a Fellow of IEEE in 1994.
