I'm back from Asia! I have a lot of pictures, which I will put up eventually. Probably one of these days where I get up at 5am because I'm jet lagged and have nothing better to do.

Yesterday (Thursday) it snowed a bit. I went back in my blog to find out when the first snow was each year. It turns out that in '02, '03, and '04, first snow wasn't until mid-late November. And in '05 I didn't blog about it; I guess I was in Barcelona at the time. So it's snowing early this year. I don't think I'm ready for it yet.

I saw The Departed. It was good.

A good article: a Marine officer's letter home from Iraq

The other day I was thinking of uses for my old laptop. Since the best part of the laptop is its screen -- it's a 15" LCD with a 1400x1050 native resolution -- ideally I'd like to be able to use the screen as another monitor for my desktop computer. Unfortunately it seems pretty much impossible to physically hook up the laptop screen to my desktop. So I looked into ways of doing similar things via software. There's Synergy, which lets you use one mouse and keyboard to control both computers, and there's DMX, which lets you have one X Desktop across two computers. These are both pretty good, but ideally I'd like something like DMX but that doesn't make me install Linux on the laptop. For example, I'd like to use VNC or something on the laptop to open up a window onto an X desktop, and I'd like that X desktop to be an extension of the desktop on my other machine. I don't think such a thing exists though. Perhaps DMX runs over Cygwin? I dunno, maybe I'll give that a shot.

Dodgers were eliminated =( But at least the Tigers advanced, Michigan is 6-0, and UCLA won.

I'm probably not going to blog much this month. I'll be pretty busy the next week or two preparing a couple of presentations that I'll be giving at the conference in Korea, and then I'll be in Korea, so not much opportunity to post from there. (I'm also going to visit Japan for a few days, which should be fun.) So, until next time!
