WELCOME!
Rooted in Grace
We believe God's unconditional love extends to all
persons. We share this good news with the lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgendered communities and their allies.
Growing in Love
We seek to love one another as Christ loves us, by
being a caring Christian community.
Branching Out to Serve
We participate in social justice ministries, education,
a.i.d.s. ministries, and other service as God leads
and empowers us.
About Tree of Life MCC
Tree of Life MCC was established in 1991 to meet
spiritual needs in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender
Communities and their friends. We strive to be open
and affirming of all races, genders, sexual orientations,
and faith traditions. We don't just tolerate diversity,
we celebrate it! God didn't create us to have someone
to sit around and hate. God loves you!
About UFMCC
We are a church of the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan
Community Churches (MCC) www.mccchurch.org There are
MCC churches in 22 countries with over 43,000 members.
UFMCC is the largest LGBT organization in the world
and the first to own property in the US. Local church
worship styles vary widely, and many theological views
are to be found in our pastors and laypeople.
Inclusive Language
Because we want to exclude no one, we use inclusive
language for persons. Because we believe that any one
metaphor is inadequate when speaking of the Divine,
we use inclusive language for God in our worship services.
This means that you may hear many different metaphors,
and pronouns referring to Deity may be masculine, feminine,
or neutral.
Worship at Tree of Life MCC
We meet for worship on Sundays at 10:30 am, and for
classes, discussions, and social events at various times.
Our worship style borrows from many sources.
We follow the Christian calendar and usually use
a liturgical format. Diversity of music styles is also
present.
We try to vary worship to meet the needs and preferences
of those in the congregation. While we are a Christian
church, we honor and respect other spiritual paths.
We dress informally and welcome any clothing that
helps you feel at home with us.
Communion
Tree of Life MCC offers communion (Eucharist) to
all people present each week. We use non-alcoholic juice.
You do not need to be a member of any church to receive.
Instructions are given each week, as the style sometimes
varies. Most often, people come forward to serve themselves
or each other. Optional prayers of blessing are offered
at the side of the room.
Anointing with oil
Anointing with oil for healing is available on request,
usually during communion. The pastor will invite others
to come and lay hands on the person who has requested
this special form of prayer. Those remaining seated
may also wish to pray for the person being anointed.
Becoming a member
Anyone willing to worship with a Christian church
may become a member by taking a membership class and
participating in a rite of membership. We don't tell
you what to believe, we encourage you to examine and
grow your own faith and spiritual practice.
You do not need to leave your current church, nor
will they be notified in any way. Your Membership in
Tree of Life MCC is confidential.
Baptism
We recognize baptism from any Christian tradition.
We baptize adults, usually by immersion, and infants,
usually by sprinkling. Occasionally a person requests
rebaptism as a person with an openly queer identity.
