Results
One idea that we would have liked to implement would have been hydraulics to push obstacles out of the way. While it seemed possible to add to the project, the weight of the components made it too difficult for the car to navigate.
A limitation we encountered was discovered in the length of the wires going from the board to the car: Electrical noise began to build up, and it became necessary to seperate the wires driving the solenoids from the other communication and power wires going to the car.
Another hardware issue was the fact that the "eye" servo didn't always rotate back to facing straight ahead, and tended to get worse as time passed.
Conclusion
The results we achieved were close to the results we expected. The processor and hardware were more than sufficient for most of our needs, though more powerful drive servos and a more accurate eye servo would have been useful. Had we known what we now know going into it, we could have added more solenoids to increase firepower.
We would also have liked to add a LCD display to our design, but due to manpower constraints, were unable to.
